The Coastal Ride on Mid - Southern Thailand

It took three days to get from Chunphon to Kanchanaburi. A total distance of nearly 500km meaning approximately 170km per day. The route was simple, stick to the coast by the beach as much as possible go up north. I led ted the pack using my sense to pick out off shoot detours to see the sights and stops while Daphe & Bestion followed behind

Thinking back 170km per day was really nothing at all but somehow during the three days journey it felt like a long trip since we started in the morning and almost always arrive after sundown. 10 hours of riding on average which does not make sense since we were speeding most of the time around 70km/hr.

There was only one explanation for this feeling, the numerous stops for photo and enjoying the view.

Day 1 journey was from Chunphon to Prachuap Khiri Khan and that was due to after halfway through the day we realized we would not make it to Hua Hin in time. Coastal ride with the sea on the right side it was scenic all the way. We stopped at many look out points enjoying the breeze but after a few attempts at photos I realized it was one of those types where photo never does it justice.

By nightfall we reached Prachuap Khiri Khan and the best part of the day was a 100 baht foot massage at the beachfront out in open air. While relaxing with a foot massage, letting the gentle sound of waves lul oneself to sleep only to be woken up occasionally by a sudden twist in the massage or a bite from a mosquito.

We did not realized how beautiful Prachuap Khiri Khan and only by next morning did we really explore the city.

Day 2 waking up in Prachuap Khiri Khan and realizing how beautiful this small city is. Nearby was a military base camp where the public can enter so we took the bike for a tour admiring the private military beach and stopping at the tourist stop where the pet Langur Monkeys were being fed continuously by tourist. These monkeys were cute as hell and friendly unlike other monkeys I have seen prowling temples around Thailand.

The temple on the hilltop in the center of Prachuap Khiri Khan, Khao Chong Krachok which we saw at night we finally made the climb up and the view was breathtaking seeing the coast as far as the eyes could see but this was not a place to relax and unwind.

With every absorption of the peaceful nature, at the back of my mind was the monkeys which were an army surrounding the temple. There was so many monkeys and these were ugly fierce looking once that makes the view lovely but not a place to hang around too long.

We hit the coast riding up north headed towards Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park soaking in scenery after scenery enjoying the ride. One thing that we had in common was long stops for hikes up nature trails was a no no with me being injured and lazy and them being conscious of the time.

Hence it was a touch and go trying to see everything within the seat of the bikes and before we know it, it was a sunset ride towards Hua Hin

Day 3 Hua Hin to Kanchanaburi. This leg was the last leg I had with Daphe & Bestian as somewhere along the way north they would turn right heading to Bangkok while i slide left towards Kanchanaburi.

Sticking true to the coastal scenic road we were more or less numb to the beaches by now but along the way with the signs saying tourist attraction with a big photograph of a black women standing out of the sea, I could not resist and detoured for a look.

Out of nowhere in the middle of the ocean was a large sculpture of a monster women in black rising from the sea with her hand outreach towards a little man statue sitting on a rock playing a flute. There must be a story somewhere about this but alas no one to tell us the tale. Hak Phuek Tian was the place.

We found a wide space called Art of Salt, with sculptures out of nowhere ... I wonder why do Thailand has such things in no man land where no tourist visits but at the same time thankful for these little surprises making the riding journey so much more enjoyable.

Pass the Royal Project of salt farms after salt farms which was beautiful and then it was time to split up. As we say goodbyes with them heading towards Bangkok, I located the River Kwai and trace it up north all the way to Kanchanaburi.
